I'm talking about PRISON not jail!

Ok... now that we seem to have come to an concensus that prison isn't the answer... WHY the hell do we allow our politicians to waste our money sending people to prison for multiple DUI's with no other injuries or even accidents?

Well the difference in prison and jail has to do with the length of the sentence rather than the relative harshness of the facility. The reason we keep spending money to incarcerate DUI offenders who do not cause accident or injury is because they have the potential to cause such injuries. It is the same reason why you can't legally fire a gun into a crowd and just walk away as long as you don't hit anyone.

I guess I don't know what the difference between the two are..
However, I think that both should be implemented. I agree that they may need some type of treatment. Yet, there are those who don't have drinking problems who are just fools and choose to drink and drive. For that reason, I feel that people need to go to prison. They chose their actions, and as a result they need to suffer the consequences. I would also want to see those who need it, receive the treatment they need as well.

i agree with tammy d i dont really think anyone is gonna change from prison or court ordered treatment ( they need to want to go on their own) prison? i have watched a lot of people come out of prison and always ends up going back which means its obviously not working i say dont let the bastards drive no more!

As a probation officer, I've had a lot of offenders, and family members of offenders, tell me that prison won't help the one for whom I've recommended prison. I agree totally that prison does not help the person who is sent. But, it helps the rest of us by them not being on the street.

I'd prefer a gift voucher or some small token of appreciation for making it home alive, a rewards system.

I don't agree with you, but my mind is open. What purpose or societal benefit do you hope to achieve?

The cost of that would be astronomical to the taxpayers.
