is it socially acceptable to use your butter knife to spread margarine on your toast--definitly not. using a butter knife to speard anything but butter is completly innapropriate, shameful/punishable by death, and all together wrong.

Depends, is your toast Melba Toast ?
If so then etiquette dictates that a spork be used to spread any topping on Melba Toast.
If it's your standard run-of-the-mill toast...well I guess we could let it slide...(or spread as the case may be) !
