The laws differ from place to place. But there is always a penalty if you kids die from being locked in a hot car. And usually a charge of child endangerment if anything else bad happens to them.
Still, I leave my 5 and 7 year olds in the car all the time. Often, they prefer it to going in to wander around the hardware store. They have been instructed in how to respond if anyone tries to get in, and they do have a two-way radio that they can use to call me if they get scared by anything.

check with your state - but it is faster to unbuckle your kids and run them inside to pay as it would take a lot of your time to go to the police station and file a report after our children have been taken and then if you never see them again you won't have to worry about it anymore - it's not worth it

They vary depending on where you live.
Do an internet search for your state or country plus "child endangerment".

With all the freaks and perverts out there, I wouldn't advise it, even if it is legal!
