those who claim to be Christian and yet pass judgment on others, and preach hatred and intolerance, and "use" the Bible to justify their bigotry are completely blind and ignorant of the fact that they've done anything wrong. they don't see that they are the ones that are sinners. "real" Christians....the majority of Christians....are loving and accepting and open-minded. my friends and family, gay and straight, are all Christian and accept me for who I am....the way God created me. and God created and loves us all.

Well, while I certainly don't approve of this particular belief held by some Christians and I'm sure this isn't the only instance of misinterpretation of the bible, I still believe that they, as well as virtually everyone else, are entitled to their personal beliefs.
I do feel sorry that some willfully exclude good people from their live simply because of a certain characteristic but virtually everyone else does this same thing whether they realize it or not.
What I do have a problem with, however, is when some people attempt to impose these personal religious beliefs on the rest of the population using, what should be, a secular government.

Some churches have apologized. Other churches have decided to investigate becoming 'open and affirming' congregations. This, in a way, is the best apology one can expect.
The most hateful churches, though - churches whose message claims that homosexuality is 'sinful' and that gay people 'choose' to be gay - are not about to change their minds. They are the new breed of Pharisees. They go out of their way to point out the sins of others while preening about in their pews, claiming holiness and righteousness. (VERY Christ-like behavior, don'tcha think?)
NB: Those of you who quote Leviticus to support your hateful stance on gay people: am I to assume that you don't shave? That you don't eat shellfish? That you don't wear cloth with two kinds of thread? That you sequester menstruating women and don't touch them? That you don't eat pork, or even touch the skin of a dead pig? No? Then what possible leg are you standing on to point your self-righteous finger?
If only Christians were more Christ-like, I imagine people would be lining up to join churches. As it is, those who proclaim their 'christianity' the loudest (Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps, Ralph Reed, and all their ilk) are the most unpleasant, unctuous, lying, hypocritical pack of haters this world has to offer. Why in God's name would anyone want to be like one of them?

Growing up in the south and being gay is hard in itself but add being raised in a Baptist Church. Being told it's wrong and I'm going to hell never set well with me. In later life I quit going to church because of that reason. Many years later I found myself missing God. I have recently joined the Methodist church in town and will have to say that they are very open minded and welcome you with open arms. I feel like I have God in my life and people around me that see me for me and not my lifestyle.

Maybe gays are misinterpreting? Leviticus 18:22 in 7 Bibles is clear:
ESV: (English Standard Version): "You shall not lie with a man as with a woman; it is abomination."
KJV: (King James Version): "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination".
LB: (Living Bible): "Homosexuality is absolutely forbidden, for it is an enormous sin"
Net Bible:"You must not have sexual intercourse with a male as one has sexual intercourse with a woman; it is a detestable act"
NIV: (New International Version) "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."
NLT: (New Living Translation): "Do not practice homosexuality; it is a detestable sin.
RSV: (Revised Standard Version): "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
It's in these same Bibles that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for homosexuality, thus derived our word "sodomy".
HOWEVER these same Bibles tell us to hate the sin but LOVE the sinner & we are NOT to judge, God will, therefore gay rights SHOULD BE ACCEPTED under those terms. NONE of us, straight, bi or gay, are without sin & it's just the church leaders "job" to teach the Bible as they understand it, without apologies.

No. No more than I should apologize for speaking out against fractured doctrine. There is no need to apologize for faith coupled with kindness. There is a huge need for faith used as a weapon to be squashed, in big way.

I don't need an apology. I forgive them already. It just would be nicer is there was a little more acceptance( and they wonder why their attendance is down??).
