A turtle's shell is made up of several layers...

The outer layers are a hardened substance similar to fingernails. Under that is a thin layer of skin, then a thick layer of hard bone. The bones are the turtles modified rib cage, shoulder blades, etc.

Under that is the turtle's internal organs- lungs, heart, etc.- all of which is indeed soft.

Please, Please, Please listen to me.

Your Turtle is lacking calcium. It should also have access to sunlight or a UV light in its enclosure!

Please get hold of the following book - Turtles & Tortoises - FOR DUMMIES!

PLEASE ACT ON THIS AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!!!

Will you let me know how you get on with this little fella, Sean
