Could established musical artists sing the "wrong song" for them if they performed on American Idol?

The judges always tell the AI contestants that they sang the wrong song for their voice...but wouldn't they say the same thing to someone like say justin timberlake or shakira (or anyone else from different genres for that matter) if they were on the show and were yet to be discovered?

it's funny cause my husband and i were just saying that!

There are so many "real" singers making money who sound worse than half of the AI contestants.
