There are reasons that are healthy (the depo shot is not one of them, as their are risks with bone health and serious side affects). Some of them were already mentioned.
Are you asking this because you have irregular periods? Or trying to not ever have a period?
It is healthy and natural for a woman to have a period. It sometimes takes a year or so for a woman just starting her period to get regular. You could always try birth control pills.

To answer your first question "Why do women/girls need their period coming ever month?" Women have a whole buncha eggs which if sperm from a man connects with one of these eggs women will get pregnant. One egg drops every month. The blood lines the uterus every month just in case an egg and a sperm meets. If this happens then the blood fertilizes the egg and helps it to develop through the pregnancy stages. If the egg does not meet with a sperm then the blood has to drop out of the body because it is no longer of any use to your body. Longer story, huh?
Your second question: You can be healthy if you don't have a period to a certain extent. Think about it this way do you really want that nasty blood just sitting inside of you? It will eventually cause a health related problem.
Please note that I am in no way telling you to get pregnant just so you don't have a period. Being pregnant when you are not old enough is a whole lot worse than having a period.

Periods can be missed because of too much stress, or using birth control that prevents it, etc. It's the same with having more than one period a month. I think they'd still be healthy, but if they start to experience any serious discomfort or something, I'd get it checked out.

You need to have a cycle at least every three months so that you can clear out all the blood that collected in your uterus, so you don't get an infection. If it doesn't do that regularly or really late all the time or not at all, then you run the dangerous risk of getting an infection. You'll have to talk to your doctor about getting your period less frequently with drugs, but to get rid of it completely--it is unhealthy.

To shed the lining of the uterus. It gets ready every month for a woman to get pregnant and if she doesn't get pregnant there is no need for the lining. That is why there are periods. If you are sick and at an unhealthy weight you wouldn't get your period. This is because your body needs that lining and the nutrients.

yes, it's possible for someone with an irregular period to be 'healthy'... but there is something a little off in her body, like her hormones aren't quite right. there are also other causes, like pcos, or being pregnant. Tons of reasons why she can be irregular. if she is concerned, she should go to the doctor.
good luck!!
