It all depends on where exactly you want to live....
"inner city" Atlanta is cheaper but not the best neighborhoods.

If you plan on living ITP (inside the perimeter or inside of 285) like Downtown/Midtown Atlanta its more expensive starting around 800 for 1 bdrm and going up about 200 for any extra bedrooms.

There are excellent suburban areas OTP (outside the perimeter) such as on the Northeast end of town Sandy Springs, Dunwoody or the Northwest side Marrietta, Smyrna or the Eastside Decatur etc, etc. apartments range in prices in these areas from about $700 on up...

I would suggest taking a look at Craigslist.org (every apartment I've rented since being here has come from there).... also try Promove I've had friends use them and they are excellent and FREE apartment locator's.

I would also suggest visiting the areas to find out which is best for you... every area i ATL is unique and offers different settings, cultures, etc. It's also very important to think about your commute...traffic in some areas are hell at any point during the day.

Best of luck and welcome to Atlanta!

In the city, if you are planning on living by yourself, you should plan on 600 at the very least. Check the classified ads in creativeloafing.com and ajc.com for rentals. Intown nighborhoods to look for are Midtown, West Atlanta, East Atlanta, Virginia Highlands.
