If I copy the basic structure and style...is that copyright infringement? There are many versions of ebay, amazon, and so forth... so yahoo can't claim that they are the only ones allowed to make a Q and A site.... right? What exactly is copyright about this place? the color scheme?

Copying the Yahoo Answers format or even just a similar site will be a violation of the Copyright Law based on the principle of color similarity and format.

If you posted a link, then I would get back to them and say there has been a mistake. It's NEVER copyright violation to post a link to another website. If you copied and pasted, then I'm afraid they are right - it's illegal. Regardless of whether you gave them credit. Anyone else who gets a random violation notice on a valid question or answer - challenge it. Many violation notices are sent out automatically, and Yahoo don't know who's doing the malicious reporting unless you tell them. I've had several things reinstated that way. Not that I care about the reinstatement, but it also removes the "trusted reporter" status from the person who's doing it.
