Sudoku is a puzzle, normally a 3 X 3 square, with certain squares already filled in with numbers between 1 1n 9. The objective is to fill in the blank squares with numbers between 1 and 9 in such a way that each row, each column and each of the 9 large squares are filled in with each of the numbers 1 to 9 occurring only once in each row, column and large square. No math is involved; it is only logical reasoning.
There are variation with 3 X 2 squares (numbers to be used 1 to 6), 15 X 15 (numbers used 1 to 15), and so on. There are other combinations in which (say, in a 3 X 3 arrangement) a jigsaw type of arrangement is made so that each row, column and the jigsaw shape has these numbers 1 to 9 occurring only once. There are other variations too.
The puzzles are graded according to the level of difficulty involved in filling in the numbers. Hundreds of books have been written on sudoku. This puzzle can be addictive!
The puzzle originated from Japan long ago but has gained prominence all over the world in the last two or three years. It is said that regular solving of sudoku puzzle helps in keeping the brain cells active.

The object is to use the numbers 1-9 in a 3x3 grid...

In addition, there are 9 such grids, and the numbers 1-9 can only appear once in each total row and column.

The object is to insert the numbers in the boxes to satisfy only one condition: each row, column and 3x3 box must contain the digits 1 through 9 exactly once.
