It is a striking film, gorgeous and grotesque all at once--like a really dark "Alice in Wonderland." If you like Guillermo del Toro's other movies (Hellboy, The Devil's Spine, Cronos), you'll probably enjoy this one as well. The movie is extremely violent in a way that most American filmgoers are not used to--the violent parts are spread out and carefully chosen, the violence is very specific and focused, and the camera does not spare us by looking away. The little girl is incredible, as is the rest of the cast. It is not an uplifting film by any means, but it is incredibly imaginative and has moments of great sweetness and beauty within the darkness.

The movie was well done, but its not an uplifting movie, there is a lot of sadness that goes with the movie, its very dark. Artistically LOVED IT! The thing that bothered me is I walked away very sad...

My husband and I wish there would have been more fantasy in it... less history. Its not for the faint of heart or for someone looking for a "light" movie. However it was well done and can't knock it on a whole. It was brilliant in many ways...
Did you see it and did you like it?

Have a GREAT day!
