There is nothing 'cultural' about an "English Country Garden". The idea behind the concept is far more profound than a mere social distinction. It is an extension of the acceptance of the peace and serenity of being as one With nature that give the sensation of pleasure. The owning of a bucolic, rustic elven glade, which has not, as yet, become the habitat of the mobile telephone,
nor invaded by the noise and hustle of the 'Hoi Polloi' is a manifestation of Our natural desire to have a sanctuary, a place of refuge where We can go to be alone with Our thoughts.

An English Garden is nature with culture. On the axis, smack dab in the middle, I suppose.

There are 4 main gardening traditions: English Picturesque, Italian/French Classical and the Cottage Garden and the Japanese Garden.

Have a look into these and then decide.
