Without a filter, about twice a year I fill mine to the 12 cup line with full strength white vinegar and let it run half then turn off the coffee maker for about 10 minutes to let the vinegar sit on all the piping and dissolve the mineral deposits therein. After the 10 minutes, I turn it back on to finish. I then run two 12 cups of plain water pots to rinse out the vinegar. I can usuallly tell it improves the taste. Good Luck!

I do use a filter, and I use pure white vinegar...and don't cut it with water. Run it through, turn the pot off and pour the hot vinegar back into the holding tank. Let it sit there for a while and run it through again. You may need to do this several times. Then...toss the vinegar and run clear water through it. Probably 3 or 4 pots worth. I only use a filter so I can see how much scuz the vinegar cleaned out.

You don't need to use a filter. Use 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water. Make sure to run 2 or 3 pots of water afterward to rinse all of the vinegar out.

I use straight Vinegar (sp?). It's cheap, and you can actually let it cool down and run it through again. As far as the filter goes, sure, use one it'll assist in the cleaning the coffee filter strainer. Another thing about using Vin, though it may not seem to, it'll clean the air. My mother and grandmother used to keep cups of Vin out to clean the air. Good luck

Just run the coffee maker with straight vinegar. (No filter.) Then run it a couple times with plain water. Make sure the vinegar smell is gone and you're good to go with a great pot of coffee.

Also... vinegar is good for treating sunburns! What a fabulous product...

100% vinegar. Run the same vinegar through 3 or 4 times and use a filter, it will trap any of the bigger pieces of aluminum oxide that the acidic vinegar loosens from the burner's coil. Then rinse a few times by running fresh water through a few times.

Half cup vinegar, full pot water, use a filter. When it's done, run straight water thru (another filter) - should do the trick. If you have stains on glass pot, use 1/4 pot ice cubes with 1/4 cup salt. Swirl around for about 1 minute, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Stains disappear.
