I've found that the best free translation site I've come accross is babblefish's IM translator.

Select 'IM Translator' or whichever one you wish to find. The IM Translator also has a French dictionary (as well as dictionaries for other languages).

I would warn you against using Google translate, since it's very unreliable (if you translate something from English to French and back, it will be really scarmbled. o.0.)

Lang8 is brilliant for anybody learning a language. She can write journal entries and have native speakers of any language (English in her case ) correct them for her, and find a conversation partner. It's free, but you cqn pay to remove adverts if you so wish.
