Who decides the patrol names for Woodbadge for the 21st Century? Do Woodbadge candidates have any influence over their own patrol name or are assignments made by the staff?

The Woodbadge staff decides your patrol, intentionally make sure to mix them up and to separate adults from the same troop or area. This is done to give you a chance to meet new people and learn new ideas. It also allows you the opportunity to come together as a patrol the same way scouts in the troop do. As far as the patrol names they are decedent of the original patrols used by Baden Powell. There are a few councils that will add or use other names, such as for a special group. Also the Course Director can make special patrol assignments if they choose to. This maybe done if they have a large group of professionals taking the course or something to that effect. I know this has been kinda long winded but I hope I was able to help.

Wood Badge patrol names are the same all over the US. I have heard of other countries having different patrol names, but in the US they are the same in all courses.
