They are standing around their crashed plane wondering if anyone will ever find them.
But as the the movie progresses it becomes clear that they are ghost and have been there for many years.
And are grieving about not being found and dismayed by the lack of interest in finding them.
The best I can remember it all takes place around this one scene of a crashed plane.
It was a very interesting movie but very sad.

I remember this movie, too - they are in the desert, and as I recall towards the end of the movie they find their own corpses in the sand leading away from the aircraft. But, like you, I have no idea what the name of it was.

There was an episode of the old "Twilight Zone" TV show about that exact plot!
