Daughters first child. She wants to keep baby in bassinet, then straight into a double bed! I have never heard of this, has anyone else? She thinks the baby bed is a waste of money!

I don't really know. I've never heard of skipping the crib either.

Will the double bed have siding--to keep the baby from rolling out? If not, it could be dangerous.

You can easily find a crib that will turn into a toddler bed. That's what we did for my son.

How bout a compromise, one of the new baby beds that turns into a bigger bed ? They seem to be the most popular and you get your money's worth out of them. A bassinet, from my experience with 3 kids won't last long enough and putting a young child into a double bed is dangerous. Hope this helps.

Baby bed as in crib? Well cribs do convert into toddler beds and it's safe to put baby in crib from day one. But bassinets only last until 3 months, sometimes shorter. A double bed definately isn't safe or recommended for an infant.

Some people skip cribs... alot of babies just end up sleeping with thier parents and go straight to a double or toddler bed when they stop sleeping with mom and dad. I don't know that i would put a baby under 9 or 10 months in a big bed of thier own though, even on the floor.

The toddler bed can sometimes be an unnecessary expense. But an infant is too small to put in a dbl bed and the bassinette will quickly become too small for the infant because it is going to want to move around in its sleep and be able to roll over and sit up etc. so staying in the bassinette is not an option and the dbl bed is too unsafe. A baby bed is obviously the next logical step. If money is an issue why not check your local freecycle for a baby bed which can be accessed at:
www.freecycle.org and registering for your or her area then post for a good baby bed with mattress

Wait till that baby stands up and shakes the sides of the bassinet. She will change her mind real fast. Ever want to sleep late? Where you gonna put baby? I know some people that let the playpin double as the baby bed, but then they just think they are being punished all the time because some people use the playpin for "confinement" or "time out". Good luck. Get her a baby bed.

I've never heard of this either- My daughter is 4-- she went from a bassinett- to a crib 1 month later, to a toddler bed when she turned 2-- we're just now starting to look for a big girl bed set for her

You may want to try to talk her about this- bc I'd be concerned about the baby's safety in a double bed

A baby bed is constructed as it is for the baby's protection, and for the parents' convenience. A double bed is neither safe nor convenient; a bed with no railings is no place for an infant that has started to turn over and become mobile, and if she has to change the sheets and mattress pad a few times after the baby wets them, I think she'll see another advantage of a crib!

My 4 year old never slept in a toddler bed, she went from a crib to a normal twin bed after she learned to walk. My husband made rails that went more than half way down the bed, that could be easily removed. Its the same thing as a toddler bed only bigger!

A bassinette is fine for the first couple of months.

Tell her she will be soooooooooo sorry if she doesn't get a crib. She would actually be putting her child in danger by putting them in a bed without secure railings to prevent falls and injury.

I'm sure she will waste more money on other things.....much more than a crib would cost.
