So is Norve Turner the guy to bring a championship to San Diego next year? I was keeping my fingers crossed for Jimmy Johnson coming out of retirement! Thoughts on the new coach? Seems to me that WHOEVER the coach is, he will probably go to the Super Bowl given all of the tallent on the Charger team! Yeah Ladainian Tomlinson is a football GOD. But let's not forget about Lorenzo Neal, Michael Turner, Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson, Nate Kaeding, Phillip Rivers, Keanan McKardell, Shawne Merriman, Sean Phillips, Quentin Jammer, Drayton Florence, Randal Godfrey, Donny Edwards, and Luis Castillo (just to name a few!)

i already had a heated discussion with another guy on here about this very topic(the guy hated norv and acted like he shouldn't be coaching in the nfl)...norv is a great offensive coordinator, but has difficulty running a team as a whole, which is why he has been unsuccessful as a head coach and why his offenses fall off when he is the head man...however, you are right the talent that this team has makes it possible for any coach to succeed, and norv has two of the best defensive coaches in the business(ted cottrell and ron rivera) on his staff

Norv Turner isn't going to win a Championship anywhere. He was fired by Washington and Oakland. Oakland actually hired Art Shell to replace him.

This guy is one of the most incompetent head coaches the NFL has seen in recent years and while he'll replace Cam Cameron pretty adequately on offense, I don't see him finding a competent replacement for Wade Phillips and then that average San Diego defense (sorry, but a defense that allows over 300 points in a season isn't a good defense, but rather average at best).

I see San Diego allowing over 400 points, but scoring 450 and finishing 9-7 with no playoffs. That's what they did the last time they had a 1st place schedule.

The Chargers couldn't win a Super Bowl with Marty Schottenheimer (above-average coach) and they certainly cannot do it with Norv Turner.

Last season, Charger fans complained about Marty Schottenheimer being too conservative, causing him to blow a playoff game by a) Going for it on a 4th down on the opening drive instead of kicking a field goal, leading to a Field Goal the other way and b) Blowing a time out on a play that had a 0% chance of being overturned when one of those San Diego defenders picked off the Patriots and fumbled the ball back to the Patriots. Sorry, but you don't do stupid things against the Patriots and get away with them. They've made a name for themselves stealing games that they have no business winning (see: the majority of Patriot wins over the last 6 years).

And you wouldn't want Jimmy Johnson to come out of retirement. The last time he coached a game, his defense allowed over 60 points.

NO! Marty Shotenhiemer was their man in San Diego. They were a defensive team and they hired an offensive cordinator with a notroucous head coaching record. The chargers will be lucky to win 10 games next season. No more super bowl hopes for LT and Co. with Norv as the head man.

If a coach was going to get the Chargers to a Super Bowl it would have been Marty Schottenheimer. Since he is gone, it will not matter who the coach is. The players must play to their potential, something they did not do in their last game. It was not Schottenheimer's fault the team lost. It must be blamed on the players. Since you cannot fire the whole team, Marty took the fall and Norv Turner, a coach that has not faired well in the NFL must take the team to the next level. If he doesn't get them there, they will have their next coach (Rivera) waiting to replace him.

if norve had just been hired as a O.C. and they kept Marty as head Marty would have gotten some insight on how to win playoffs i mean this guy brought the team to a 14-2 record giving the touchdown machine the ball its just you cant do the same crap that you did in the regular season in playoffs and with Rivera at the helm of the "d" and norve with the "o" chargers could have been Superbowl bound buts its not gonna happen. i mean come on its the chargers! what are they really gonna do except CHOKE on their on balls?

Everyone makes Norv out to be some football/quarterback coaching guru. Let's not forget what he did in his last two stops: anyone remember Oakland? Washington? He is a coach, but not necessarily a Head Coach. Wait and see.

B-Cool

Norv is a great O.C. but as a H.C. - he is suspect. He will run the offense better than Martyball while Rivera and the new D.C. will handle the bolts defense...Dont worry guys...they will be fine - if not better because Norv plays wide open offense- not the martyball crap

san diego was stupid to get rid of mart schottenheimer, and nooo! norve turner will not lead them to a superbowl, if marty was still their head coach, id say they would win next year, but they aint gonna win with norve turner!!!
