We have cardinals and blue jays all winter long in southwest Missouri. I don't accept that it is really spring until I hear my first whip-por-will. Have seen a few robins and heard a few doves the last couple of days, so it is getting closer.

Nah. Cardinals don't migrate south for the winter. You are thinking a robin maybe?

actually its a robin bc the usual cardinals don't migrate in the winter seasons especially the small ones and the parents would probably not leave them :P
