A cigarette was smoked in our large office last week. There are only limited soft furnishings in there, but the room has not recieved much ventilation as the office has been closed for a week.

Will the smell have gone by next Monday (total of nine days since smoke)?

One cigarette would not cause a strong smell for a long time. Spray some air freshener.

Cigarette smoke smell is difficult to get rid off as it clings to all furnishings including curtains, leaves yellow stains (which can be removed with soapy water) on metal products. I suggest you get a professional cleaner in to give it a spring clean and put up "No Smoking" signs. You can also purchase some of those plug in (which plug into your electric plugs) Smelly's which will go 24 hrs a day, these last for about a month and you will always have a fresh smelling room but be careful on which one you purchase as these can be very strong smelling. Or you can consider getting a latch for the window which can then be left open a fraction but stop a burglar from getting in.

I really don't think that just one cigarette would cause such a stink, but if you are able to open a window, it will be out in no time at all. If not, just get some sort of air circulation going, and air freshener never hurt either. Spray some Febreze on the soft furnishings to get the odor out. I hope this helps you out.

If it's all closed up then the smell will still be there. You need to open the windows and the doors to get some fresh air flowing through there. If you do this it should only take a day.

I know your Mom is blowing smoke, even after she has snuffed the cigarette butt. She still has smoke in her lungs and when she exhales she is blowing it out although it may not be visible. My husband smokes and does the very same thing. I've told him to stay out on the deck until he gets all the smoke out of his lungs. What is there about smoking that makes them think everyone wants to smell that nasty smell of burning leaves?

It should be gone by then. Invest in a small room air purifier & odors will disipate a lot faster.

I don't know, but you shouldn't be smoking in the first place. How do you think God feels about that.
