During the "American Revolution", there were two sides, the people who supported the Declaration of independenc(or the idea of freedom) and the ones that didn't (loyal to the brtish king). What were each side "called" patriots...militants...Tories.... dunno?? And what were there reasons or arguments for choosing that side? Or if you know of any books/websites i can use that could help me out?

To get a better understanding, just consider the Canadians. They did not see the need to fight a war of liberty against England, but we don't consider them to be such an oppressed people. Words like patriot and Torrie make us think that one is good and the other is bad. But it's not so simple. When the war started the patriots were engaging in armed insurrection against their government. They used guerrilla tactics like the Boston Tea Party and ambushes. In fact, just about half of the colonists did not want anything to do with the overthrow of the government. If people engaged in this same type of rebellion against our government today we would call them terrorists, criminals, anarchists, or just plain evil-doers. If the rebellion was against a government we don't like we would have to call them freedom-fighters.

It could be economic: someone could be a patriot because he didn't like the heavy taxes on everything. Or because he thought that, as an Englishman, he deserved representation and wasn't getting enough respect. Or because he had emigrated from Germany and didn't like the English. Or because a soldier had been rude to him. Or because his family were Whigs. Or because he couldn't cut down the pine tree in his front yard because the English navy had marked it to be used as a mast.
He could be a Tory because his family had always supported the king. Or because the government had done him a favor. Or because he appreciated the help the English army had given during the French and Indian War. Or because he didn't like the idea of rebellion.

Americans revolted because of no taxation without representation.
The other side was royal to the british because even though British taxed the americans, the americans had to pay less taxes than the people in England. Also because since Englan was ruling America, they were the richest people.
