No on A-Rod, Howard, or Santana. Pitchers are too risky to take in the first round, and OFs and 3Bs are plentigul. You can find a good value in one later in the draft. Take Jose Reyes and enjoy winning your fantasy league. SS are extremely rare, with Hanley Ramirez being the only one close to Reyes' level,.

There are multiple answers. Whomever you take you must build the team around them so you have to ask yourself what will your second round pick be - I think the second round pick is actually the most important. Build a chart by position and then do a quick mock draft building each team by needs and a strategy to fill the needs by position.
I'm am thinking Soriano - but I'm also betting that his career .160 batting average at Wrigley was due to pitching and not the park itself since 9 of his 25 AB's at Wrigley were K's. And I'm also thinking that the first time he puts one on the street he is going to want to do that every time. He has the power to make a soft fly ball leave Wrigley. And the Cubs have enough hitters behind him to increase his run production by 20 or 25 although I think he may lose stolen bases.
As far as a number 2 pick? I think the only real bad decision would be to take someone not in the top 10, if you build your team right you should be OK. No matter who you pick, if they break their leg or have an off year for some reason, there will 15,000 people online happy to tell you they said to pick someone else...

Soriano's value drops now, because he no longer is a 2Bman
I would take Utley, since there aren't any other second basemen even close,
Or Santana, since he's the only pitcher worth taking in the first 3 rounds

relies upon on the format for specific. what share communities, is it h2h, roto, factors, etc. you relatively need to snag a sort of SS, Ramirez, Reyes or Rollins. 2nd %. is basically too early for a Howard/Fielder type guy. On Santana, is his commerce respected yet? He has to waive no-commerce via way of a settlement extension. I picked Santana in my first around in 2 drafts and it replaced right into a 'hmmm' circulate. Going to the NL might desire to help his stats, yet a minimum of the AL manhattan followers seem to enjoy taunting their very own gamers which easily harm their crew. i do no longer think of Santana ought to be seen as a bad %. and Ramirez has lost Cabrera. So, it relatively is a thank you to bypass.

i would take howard even as my first pick... but he can go into a sophmore slump... and uhhh you never pick a pitcher as your first pick in fantasy baseball... and soriano is gonna have down year like every pro athletes do when they sign a huge contract... example adrian beltre, kevin brown, the list goes on. only hall of fame caliber athletes are worth that much money and soriano is no hall of famer

lol at these people. santana are you kidding? never take a pitcher that early. there are plenty of good ones to take later on. ryan howard? sure hes got pop but first basemen are the easiest to get. you can get good ones later on. if soriano has 2b elibigility get him. he will have derrick lee and aramis ramirez hitting behind him. he will score a lot, steal a lot, and give you power numbers. arod is a good choice but i like alfonso more.

Jose Reyes. Reyes will provide power, average, runs, and steals... and he'll do it all at the SS position. He also has more potential upside than many of the other "gimme" picks.
Don't be surprised when Reyes bats .310 with 25 HR, 70 SB, 130+ R and 90+ RBI.

He had a great season last year.
