1) The British decided to tax the colonists to pay for the costs resulting from the French and Indian War since the colonists were the ones being protected.

2) Parliament decided that although virtual representation represented the colonies favorably, the colonies also had a responsibility to uphold. Parliament decided also that it was time to get more directly involved in colonial affairs in spite of how the colonies were mostly left to their own bidding over since they were established.

3) Ben Franklin, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Thomas Paine

4) Stamp Act, Sugar Act, Tea Act, Impressment Act (used mostly after Revolutionary War).
