You must have a DVD Burner to write to dvds.

is the device you're trying to use to burn this DVD actually a DVD burner or is it a CD-ROM? If it is a DVD burner, is it internal or external? if it's external, is it USB or firewire? you may just need to power it down and restart it for the computer to detect it.

are you for sure that your drive is capable of burning dvd's?
