Now that's a delicate question. In a small town, sorry to say, male cheerleaders are generally considered homosexual. That said, this might not be a deterrent for someone who is comfortable with his sexual orientation, but I can see it causing problems for a straight boy trying to fit in. And I'm talking about the high school environment here. Male cheerleaders in the professional/college arena tend to get a bit more respect for skill and ability because, let's face it, some of that stuff they do is pretty amazing.
Still, overall and personally, cheerleaders in general give me that "ick" feeling. They've always reminded me of Brownies on a sugar high or too much caffeine -- insistently immature, roving in herds, jumping around like Jack-in-the-box-es, and always doing car-washes or some such fund raiser that involves poster paints. The skills are impressive, but the attitude, cliche-ish behavior, and strange obsessive-compulsive tendency to bust out with a high-kick, a back flip, or bounce incessantly on the balls of ones feet spontaneously, and usually in inappropriate places, can sometimes frighten people in grocery stores and is generally off-putting. My advice: step away from the pom-poms.

Since no guys are willing to do it, they are smart because colleges like Male cheerleaders and it is an easy way to get a scholarship. No, I am not a male cheerleader.

they're brilliant...would you rather slap a teammate's behind through spandex or gym shorts, or support a cute cheerleader wearing a skirt from underneath her? same with male dancers. of course, some are gay, but those who aren't sure get a heck of a view!

No, they are not all gay. Both General Eisenhower and General Patton were cheerleaders. It might be smarter than getting beat up out on the field; not to take anything away from the players.

I see nothing wrong with it. If a man wants to be on the cheerleading team, that does not make him gay. Bye!!!

There are two camps:
1. They are Gay...which does account for some of them
2. They are the smart boys. They get to put their hands on girls butts, wrap their arms around them and probably get their share of after game action.....

My first reaction, is one of ignorance, but to me they look Gay..... I know they serve a purpose ( to catch a chick if she falls from atop a pyramid) but couldn't they just use big boned girls for that?
