Sirius is a subsciption service because they have very little commercial or advertisement revenue.
It costs about US$10 per month. I think that you will find programs soon that will get you the hardware for free, just like cell phones with a subscription plan.

It costs $10 a month for unlimited use of Sirius or XM. The units run about $50-$200. The price might go down now that XM and Sirius are merging into one company.

i believe that it's just free after you buy it. my aunt bought it and never said anything about paying a monthly fee or anything.
