Coming from someone who lived the era you are referring to. I have to say I totally disagree with the rest of the guys on here tonight. Their singing was mesmerizing, and it definitely had a large impact in the music industry through retro and disco.
I mean just look at their songs....
Too Much Heaven
Rest Your Love On Me
Jive Talking
Bridge Over Troubled Waters
Night Fever
Our Love(Don't Throw It All Away)
Shadow Dancing
Nights On Broadway
To Love Somebody
You Should Be Dancing
And of course the one they wrote when their brother Andy died...
Wish You Were Here.
This guys are legends!!!!!!!

They bought disco on another level with their music. People are still playing they're songs today! Go to any wedding and you might hear a Bee Gees tune! When you hear they're stuff, you just wanna get up and have a good time. Music should be fun and they're disco tunes provide that the world over!

They gave men with falsetto voices new songs to sing. ;-)
Actually I really liked the pre-disco BeeGees of the 60's/early 70's. They lost me once they started performing disco.

their singing brought disco into the limelight and aside from having a song in a handful of movies they didn't do much for the world.

They didn't. Not the world. It takes more than music to do that.
