We can't know about this through archaeology. Anthropology will give us some clues. In many stone-age level tribes the women go and stay in a separate hut or place at that time.

Not sure but in the days of slavery the slaves sat over a hole or in a river. So they probably did something like that.

I know this sounds gross... but probably nothing. More than likely they just didn't care what was going on down there, and just let it drip down their legs. Blood is blood, and since they hadn't died the several times that it happened before, they wouldn't be worried about it then.
