i think the average american gets over-weight becuase of all the fatty foods that the fast food resteraunts put in the food they make and also that is why i think we get so addicted to all this fatty food, and the fact that mant americans are always on the go, so that also plays a factor. i think we can stop it by trying to slow our lives down and making time for a nice, healthy meal, also i think we all could try to be more educated on the food pyramid to know how much we should have of this and how much we should have of that, even i admitt alot of the times i do not have enough time and i also admitt that i am not very educated about the food pyramid.

A lot of the reasons that Americans get so fat is from childhood. We are a society where food is always a "gift". As a child if we are good and if we stop crying we get a bottle, or as we grow up, we get a pretzel or something like that. It's not so different then the training of an animal. So as we grow up we see food as solace. Break up with your boyfriend, go out and have a drink and stuff yourself with the nuts at the bar, or the usual, eat that quart of ice cream you have, or go out and get some. It's from our childhood, we look to food to fill that emptiness inside ourselves. It's not the best thing, but better than turning to drugs. How can we stop this, it would have to be at the early age. Don't do what your parents did to you, using food as a treat to behave. Also, as a parent, teach your children to eat correctly. By the time we are old enough to know right from wrong in what we should eat we already have the wrong things imprinted on our brains. We can stop it as adults by trying to eat better and stay away from fast foods.

In the early days before modern farm impliments and other modern technology,people had more active lives,the farmers walked behind horse drawn plows to till the soil,walked in the fields to plant the seeds and tend to other chores like chopping wood for the fire place and stove. Women sewed by hand,cleaned the house did the laundry by hand,hung the clothes on a line outside the house to dry,ironed clothes.There were no presrevatives or anything else added to the food. The physical work they did burned more calories than we do today. Also they didn't have a lot of junk food like we do today.
They drank more water,kids played outside instead of sitting in front of a TV playing video games all day.
Today,we have food that has been altered,chemicals have actually been put into food to make us want more of it,modern washing machines and dryers make it easier to do the laundry or you can take it to the cleaners and let someone do it for you. With wrinle free clothes,you don't have to iron anymore,just hang them up after drying. Kids sit in front of a TV playing video games,watching movies,chatting on the computer,listening to their favorite tunes.
We have the car to take us across town or a couple of blocks to do what ever.
We consume more calories than we burn,so it gets stored as fat until the body needs it-but we consume even more calories and the body stores it too.
There have beem studies that show some people are genetically predetermind to be fat because of ancestry.
Some is just from shear laziness and the ease of food readily available,ready to eat and you don't even have to wash the dishes.

1. Anyone -- American or not -- gets fat in the same way. Eating too many non-nutritious foods (one's body only needs a certain amount of calories, fat, protein, vitamins, fiber etc. and if you go over that amount, surprise -- YOU'LL GET FAT!!!)

2. Fast food restaurants add MSG (monosodium glutimate) to their foods to give it a certain flavor, but it is an addictive chemical. Some people are allergic to it and will get headaches after eating fast food or any food with MSG.

I work at a fast food resteraunt. We are so busy that it's not uncomman to have a $10,000. day. Do you know how much burgers and fries we sell in that day? Well I only make the small burgers and have stood in one spot for 6 hours without a break slapping them together. It takes me 20, to 30 seconds to make one. Get the picture?
The grease that falls off the patties in the broiler is so much, we have a 5 gallon pail collecting it.
People come in and order double and triple pattie large burgers, with cheese and bacon, plus poutine instead of fries and then ask for a large DIET soda.
Breakfast: precooked eggs that have salt. bacon ham, sausage'
cheeze, on croussants or english muffins or large buns, deep fried french toast.
You know what the french fry holder is called. (The good mine)
and theres a big reminder to SALT THOSE FRIES!
Ya I work there, but I didn't say I eat there.

we get fat by consuming a lot of calories. most of us americans don't exercise, yet don't even attempt too. obesity is an epidemic, especially in america. it's not gonna stop, but there are things we can all do to prevent an increase of the population being diagnosed with obesity. as more fast food places come up, the more obesity comes a long with it and young kids will be growing up with nothing, but fast food, if and only if they aren't raised properly with good eating habits.

Fast food tastes good for the most part. To go on a diet means eating foods we enjoy less. How do we stop it? "We" don't. Each person needs to take personal responsibility to eat right and exercise on their own. People need to start treating fast food like its a treat and only eat it once in awhile. "We" have put out enough literature and scholastic studies to indictate that society is obese. People need to change lifestyles by doing it themselves...

Because Fast Food is yummy as hell to the non-discerning palate. Because, most people are on the go and need food quickly in between places. And, laziness. We can stop it by making fat people feel like second class person's in societ - wait, they already are. Hopefully they'll just stop on their own.

not all of us are fat we just arent starving like other countries u cant really stop being addicted to fast food unless u just dont eat it
