I try to be as much as possible. I think it just is a natural instinct with me that comes from being a special education teacher. I just go into that "helping" mode when I see someone who might need some help at a store or help with understanding something. Less fortunate does not always mean someone who wants a handout. It can be someone who needs help in other ways.
I try to keep in mind the scripture where Jesus says... " there but for the least of you go I "....

If the person is down on their luck, yes. If it is someone who never tries to improve their situation, no.
