While giving birth? I own a fancy guppy tank and some die whenever they have babies
how do I prevent that or make their chances of living greater?

Do you separate her before she drops, in one of those baby catchers? If this is the case and you raise the babies until they are big enough to fight for food. A good food for the fry is to mash up a hard boiled egg yoke. It is tiny enough for their little tiny mouths. Just smash some between your thumb and finger and wash it off in the tank. Keep the temp. at 80%

If the babies are left in the tank with parents and other fish, the babies are eaten. Some people keep common guppies to provide the other fish in the tank with extra protein.

Try the egg yok. It has worked on all the species I ever raised.

Just to add something to the good advice given already:

More shelter.
You don't need to remove the fish if you have enough places for them to hide when they are giving birth. Some wood/plants/rocks to make caves etc. for mothers (and the babies) to hide in should do.

Less fish.
If you have too many fish in with the females, they will bother the female. If you can't get rid of some of the fish, you may have to do what the others said and get another tank to separate the females.

Get a breeder box.
When you see the female is about to pop. Put them in a breeder box. The female can give birth in relative peace and the babies will drop into a safe box underneath (so the female won't eat them).

The worst thing you can do is put them in a breeder or another tank. This causes undue stress, just make sure they have lots of caves and plants to hide in while giving birth

they get stressed. it could be because other guppies in the tank are bugging them while they're trying to give birth. do you remove them when they're having babies? sometimes, if you put them in one of those net breeders, those stress them out if they're in it too long. if you have space, put them in their own quiet tank while they have babies. make sure there's plenty of spots for the babies to hide. (mommy will eat them)

I think one of the most important things you can do is to isolate them while birthing. Other fish will constantly be next to them, nipping on them trying to get the babies, I would imagine the stress would be great for them. I never lost one, but I feel it is because I had isolated them.
