You would have to have a yard that is fairly wet, maybe near a creek or pond. Salamanders like to hide under rocks and organiz debris near the water's edge. You can go looking of them there. But, depending on the season where you live, you may not be likely to find one now. It's still pretty cold in the US, so those guys are still burrowed for the winter. Springtime and summertime are the best times to find them.

Maybe there is not salamanders in your yard.
If there is, I would look near the wet erea, river, pond, humidity in the soil.

Do have a small creek or pond? Or small puddles in your yard. Anywhere muddy or wet is where they would be.
