I am a Graphic Design sophomore at a university and I have been getting good grades so far. I don't have to worry about paying tuition because my dad works for a school in the system (I even have a scholarship for books). I am part of a Christian group and I have good friends here.

I should be happy about my situation, but I have been depressed since the beginning of the semester. I just don't feel like going to my classes anymore, and already I have missed several assignments because of my apathy. I find myself going home all the time, even though I have plenty to do on campus.

I am planning to transfer to another school after this semester, but I need advice on whether or not I should drop all but one class I am taking. I would only take the art class I am now in, but drop the other classes because I feel like I am not going to improve. My parents would not be happy about my dropping so many classes and living at home.

I still plan to get my degree, I just will get it at the school I'm transferring to! My mother always warns me about the dangers and impracticality of living paycheck to paycheck.

coyote81: So I'm spoiled because I didn't choose to join the Navy like you. Sorry you don't see your family that often, but you should have known that before you enlisted.

Go to the projects, or another "economically-disadvantaged" part of town. Look around. Talk to people. Most people in this country are only two paychecks away from becoming homeless or living in these drug-addled projects. A college degree will not protect you completely, but it will certainly make you a more desireable job prospect.

Stay in college -- it is a priviledge and you will eventually reap the economic benefits of having a degree. You are going through a rough patch, but it will pass.

Our daughter did the same thing, and we as her parents were not very happy. Not because of the money, but because she didn't follow through with her semester. Your mom and dad might not support your transfer if you stop working. And the school you transfer to might have questions. I would suggest that you speak with your student advisor or counselor and see how you can work this out. My daughter took one art class, like you, and she eventually went to an art school where that was the only credit that would transfer anyway. But since you have another major, you could end up losing time on your degree. However, the most important thing is your mental health. Good luck on working it out and I hope you feel better!

Dropping the classes is better than failing them. You should focus on your health first. Talk to your parents so they understand your situation and can help you. Don't make a transfer decision until you get your situation settled. Good Luck.

You spoiled little brat. I'm currently in training in the U.S. Navy and if I don't go to class because "I just don't feel like it" I face criminal prosecution. you go home and see your family every day. I haven't seen mine since Christmas, and I'm lucky, many service men and women didn't even get that much. Get up, stop whining, and do your job, and right now school is your job. I say you're spoiled because you have everything provided for you and yet you're whining.
