Hello,

I want to re-install windows on my new HP DV2197 latop (as it came with a XP Home and I want to upgrade it to XP PRO) as I like a clean machine, but when I booted from my windows XP Pro CD it gave me a message that there is no drive installed on the computer, apperantly Windows XP PRO can not install on a SATA hard drive.

Any suggestions

In order for XP to see the SATA drive, you need to install the 3rd party driver for the chipset (Southbridge) that controls the SATA. Since it is an HP laptop, you should go to the HP website and download the chipset drivers and put them on a floppy. Then when you install XP and it see no drive, it should ask if you want to install 3rd party drivers.
