Recently I had shoulder surgery. I had a torn rotator cuff and a loose tendon. I am only sixteen so the likes of me healing and getting back in the pool. However, I have talked to people who were swimmers my age that got shoulder surgery and they never got back in the pool again. Were you a swimmer who had shoulder surgery? did you ever swim again?

I believe that with the proper physical therapy it could be possible for you to swim again, except you would probably not be able to do butterfly for at least another 2 years after the end of your physical therapy just from all the stress it puts on your shoulders.

After the surgery you should be going to physical therapy anyways just to make sure you're OK and healing well. But check with the place that you go to and see if there's anything that they can do for people who want to go back to being an athlete once they leave the PT facility. They'll probably tell you the same thing in the fact that you can't do butterfly but for freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke you should be OK, breststroke being the best of those options considering the stress is more on your hip joints and elbows, not so much your shoulders except for when you pull yourself out of the water to do a turn.
