My 15 month old has a terrible cold, we have tried everything...humidifier, saline nasal drops, nasal suction, going into the bathroom with the steam from the shower running, tylenol (he has a slight fever), holding him upright...he's still so congested. Any suggestions? How often can you do the saline drops? Is a warm or cold mist humidifier better (and why)? Any help you could offer would be great!

We have already been to the doctor and confirmed it is just a cold. He's doind OK, I just want to know if there is some other method out there to help make him more comfortable while riding this out.

i am a huge fan of Vick's for my kids i rub it on their chest and back and it seems to help a lot and it can be used on a baby his age also the Vick's plug ins help good luck! and with a fever you do light clothing that is why when you take your baby to emergency they make you strip your baby down to allow the skin to breath bundling up actually can hold the heat in to your baby and cause them to convulse so you do not want to do that it is a old wives tail that is no longer supported by the medical community!

try alternating Tylenol with Motrin (every other time- I think its 3-4 hrs.) Vick's vapor rub and vapo bath also do miracles. Be careful with the nose drops they can sometimes cause nose bleeds. Dress your baby in a sweat suit and socks and bundle up and try to make him sweat. With this you have to get him to sweat if his temp keeps rising and does not break a sweat you will have to remove the pants at first and then if need be the sweat shirt. I really do not know the difference of warm of cold mist. I have a humidifier/ vaporizer and have had it for 15-16 years and that's all I use. If this continues too many days (pass 3) I would get him to the doc. I have 3 kids and this is what i have done with them. Be sure to keep fluids in him! Even if he throws up some is better than none. Good luck

i have recieved soo much good advise i cant pick.but here is some of the worst "advise" if one can even call it that 1. there is NO reason to gain more than 10 pounds while pregnant...a baby only weighs like 6! [what an idiot, i was 15 pounds underweight when i got pregnant on top of that so i need to gain alot more weight than freakin 10 pounds!!!] 2. breastfeeding is discusting, dont breastfeed..its not as good for a baby as formula [wow]

Has he been to the doctor yet? Since he has a fever, they might want to check his breathing to make sure his lungs are clear, and to test for the flu or strep (strep is always going around in our neighborhood). Otherwise, it sounds like you are doing all you can; to just try to keep him as comfortable as you can. If it is only a cold, it will start getting better soon.

Just so you know... whoever wrote the answer about sweating, please don't listen! When anyone has a fever, sweating is impossible. You only start to sweat when the fever is breaking! Do not bundle him up, a pair of pants, socks and a t-**** is fine. Just let him lay down with a bottle or sippy cup and have him relax...prop him with a pillow in his crib/bed!

It sounds like you have tried all the reasonable methods to comfort your little one.
Keep the cool air humidifier on, hold him in your arms in an upright position, try baby vicks on his chest if you have it, offer clear liquids...and CALL HIS DOCTOR.
You have done all the appropriate "Mommy" things..it sounds at this point he may need some antibiotic.

You should really go to the doctor. My sons just spent a week in the hospital because I thought they just had a cold and it ended up being RSV, bronchilitis. Please get your child checked I would hate for you to go through what I did.
You should have them check his oxygen level just in case. If it is to low the can give you a nebulizer to use at home to help him breath better and you only have to use it like every four hours. Also ask them to test for RSV, older babies and children get it also. My kids are seven months and four years and they both had it.

When all Else fails go to the doctor. I do have to say though that I admire the fact that you are patient enough with you're child to try other things besides just running to the doctor. It really shows you're dedication.

PediaCare makes a "vaporizer" that you plug into the wall and it releases menthol vapors into the air. It works wonderful.
