I have a 1995 dodge 1500 pickup with a 5.9 liter 360 magnum engine. the radiator is busted so i cant run it cause it will overheat and the brakes are out. recently its started having problems with not wanting to start and when it does start it runs really bad idles up and down and almost dies when i let off the gas then idles back up and it has a miss and i can smell fuel like its flooding out or something. i checked the oil and it smelled fine and no milky substance in it just regular oil so it cant be a head gasket problem i dont think. does anyone have any suggestions to what this could be? i would greatly appreciate it

This sounds like a classic blown head gasket or cracked engine block or head to me. There are two sets of chambers in the engine assembly, oil and coolant. If the breach occurs between the cylinder and the coolant system the result will be overheating. The miss you describe sounds like compression is not being achieved in one cylinder. The unburnt gasoline then comes out of the exhaust system resulting in the gas smell.

If you get a coolant system pressure check and an engine compression test you will know for sure what it is.

If the truck has been sitting for a long time, the problem could be the gas. Gas will go bad after a long length of time.

sounds like the throttle position sensor or idle air control.also check the gas filter and run a fuel pump test on it.also it could be the fuel pump regulator.thats a start,it could be 1 of those things.

With the codes in hand, refer to a quality repair manual for proper diagnostic procedures, and follow them before attempting repairs.

So what's the point on making it run better with no radiator or brakes?

Take it to a mechanic, before you are pulled over and lose your truck.
