I'm currently using Am-O-Lin Sensitive baby Laundry Powder, but some of the clothes are coming out a bit stiff. Am I able to use a fabric softener on the clothing or is it safer not to??

Hi everyone, thanks for your great responses. I went to the supermarket last night and spent about half an hour in the laundry section. Lol. There was so many different washing powders and softeners made especially for babies - I ended up getting some more of the Am-o-Lin & a fabric softener "Cuddly". They both smell amazing after using them, just like a freshly bathed bub!!

Thanks again :D

i use bounce fragrance free fabric softener on all my baby's clothes EXCEPT his sleepwear. all baby sleepwear is required to be flame resistant. if you use softener on them, it compromises the flame resistant properties of the material.

Dreft is not necessary, do not use fabric softeners until they are older, I started when mine were about a year. their skin is so sensitive. I washed with a very minimal amount of soap,(I mean it isn't like they get sweaty from outisde and warm water with just a touch of soap is enough ) I used spray and wash to treat the stains. I never used bleach or fabric softener. I always rinsed twice, just to make sure there was no residue and just popped them in the dryer with nothing else. Then about 6 months, I began washing them with my clothes, ( not with my husbands work clothes or anything ) and eventually began to use softeners and dryer sheets. Nothing special except rinsing twice

I used 1/2 the amount of Downy Liquid Fabric Softener in my loads of baby clothes for the first few months. by using half, you're still softening the clothes, but there will be less chance the fabric softener itself will irritate the skin.

Babies do indeed have sensitive skin. But not all babies need baby detergent. The best way to find out if your baby is ok with fabric softner or your regular detergent, just take one onesie and wash it with the rest of your clothing. Let your baby wear it and see if they get a rash or irritation. If not, guess what? Your baby isn't sensitive to regular detergent. No need to do separate loads just for your baby. If your baby does get some irritation, just baby detergent. Luckily baby clothes don't stay long since they grow out of it really fast ;)

Try just throwing one or two sleepers in with your own laundry with a fabric softner sheet..like bounce. You can get them unscented. I'd say that's your best bet.
I used bounce sheets ever since my son was born...2.5 years ago~ lol, he's just fine. Never had a problem.
No need to use baby laundry detergent either. So expensive, but it sure does smell nice :)

I think dreft is a good detergent for babies. if you do not use that ivory is good too. I have a three month old and i use fabric sheets , if you decide to use them just make sure you watch the baby's skin carefully. If anything changes stop.

If you do, use Dreft. It's made for babies. But it is kind of pricey, so other than Dreft, use nothing at all. My son got a rash because some of his socks were in the regular laundry.

I've been using laundry sheets on my babies laundry since she was born, she's been just fine. I think you're ok. Just watch for a rash, but if it's not bothering baby keep using it.

if you use the detergent All free and clear..... and then use a fabric softener.... Keep a close eye on your baby to check for rashes.....and please make sure that you wash all new baby clothing b4 you put them on your baby......I knew some one who would always put new baby cloths on her child and the child kept a rash....once ppl told her the probable reason for the rash...and even the Dr.....she refused to believe it.....so wash your babies clothing.

Its safeest not too because babies have very sensitive skin. Look and see if you can find any thats hypo-allergenic and fragrance free...if so, you can safely use that. Good Luck
