The Los Angeles Lakers where the first NBA team to own their own D league team.

The defenders are the lakers minor league team where they can stick young players who aren't good enough to play on the big league team but where drafted. This way the players get to play in the games and improve and the lakers also have this team run the triangle offense.

Running the same offense is important because it takes a couple years to fully get the triangle offense down and understand it.

The lakers control the defenders but don't hold the rights or have connections to every single player.

NO they are part of the developemental league. Which is a minor league system for the NBA. Only a handful of teams have a private Develpomental team and the Lakers are one of fthem with there team being based out of Anaheim the reason they have it is for players to learn the Lakers adn Phil Jacksons Triangle Offense

Why would they be the same team if they've got a different name with different players?

The L.A. D-Fenders is a team in the NBA's D-League (Development League).

These are players that weren't necessarily good enough to be drafted out of college or high school to the NBA, but are good enough and show enough potential that NBA scouts would like to keep an eye on them and their playing skills.

LMFAO... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO the d-fenders are a minor league team (also called a feeder team or d-league). This was a funny question, and you should have got that because bakersfield doesn't have a pro team.
