It should be. It's sad how in the US bare feet are seen as dirty or poor. In many cultures it's even a sign of respect or humbleness to walk barefoot; to be aware of the Earth you walk on, to step more gently on the surface of the planet. And I'm not only speaking of cultures from other parts of the world; think of the Franciscans for example.
One of the three times I wore footwear for social reasons in the past ten years was at a funeral, and it felt very, very *wrong* to walk on those sacred stones & later the thick moss of the old cemetary like that. The next funeral I went to I did wear a very long skirt & barefoot sandals so my bare feet weren't too obvious, but no soles. I'm not very religious, most of the time my main reasons for barefooting are comfort & health, and I don't often end up in church unless someone has died, but when I walk in some special places -old churches, old cemetaries, or even secluded forest glades- then I feel the presence of the Earth and the ancient Gods & it wouldn't be right to stomp around there wearing shoes. Maybe I should visit churches and other sacred sites more often -barefoot of course. :)
Just my own experience and inner feelings -other people wearing shoes in holy places doesn't bother me. To each their own, in the end how you worship is between you and your God(s), rather than between you and other people.

Well to me it may be OK, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to go barefoot in Church, and the minister doesn't mind, I would go for it.

It would be a biggoted church that would have you removed for entering barefoot ...
also the old fashioned idea of having a SUNDAY BEST outfit to wear to church .. always amused me .. as I didn't think it would matter to God what you wore...

Yes of course it is, in fact in the old church it was a sin to wear shoes into a holy place! It's not a big deal, rally a non-issue. Not sure why our society makes a thang out of bf'n in public places. Besides, it's so darn FUN!!!!

sure, when i was growing up they had a playground on church grounds and it is hot in arkansas, and i didn't but the younger kids would come in barefoot, it was hot in church too. now you'd probably be considered heathens, but back then it was a more innocent time, and people were't so judgemental.

Surely it depends on the individual church and its customs. Should any discussion arise of the practice, you can always reference the scriptural precedent of Moses.

You should be able to go anywhere you want, any way you want. Hey, Jesus rode thru the temple on a donkey, and healed people on the sabbath. What does that tell you?
