I just ordered a laptop. It will be coming with all the necessary plugs and battery, but am wondering if I need to purchase a docking station??

Your new laptop will have several USB ports. it might have a Wireless Adapter built-in. The Monitor port is already there. You might also have a PS/2 port for a keyboard or mouse. You can adapt, and plan to use these devices without a docking station or port replicator. You can always get the docking station at some point later. The basics will probably do the trick for you.

no you do not need a docking station... docking stations are used to support your laptop in a more upright position... therefore making it easier to use and operate... if you were using it in a business situation ALL day long

Required? No. A docking station will allow you to connect your laptop to an external monitor and mouse/keyboard. It main function is to allow you to connect to a desktop and easily transfer information, update, download....etc...

No theyre not needed at all it's just another device they want you to think you need to give them more of your money.
