with an "H" or "I" hook and regular worsted weight yarn, you will probably have 6 to 8 rounds for a 7" square in double crochet depending on how tight you crochet... I crochet real tight so mine end up a little smaller. As long as all your squares have the same amount of rows it won't matter if they are a little bigger or smaller than the 7". email me if you have questions treecelynn@yahoo.com

The link below will take you to a page that lists links to many Free Patterns for 7 inch Crocheted Afghan Squares. These patterns can help you compare what sizes of hooks are usually used with what weight of yarn and how many rounds for a 7 inch square.

Using a 6.0 hook I can whip out a 4inch square in three rounds. With a 6.0 hook I would do probably six rows to get a 7inch square. This of course varies on the stitch you use (I use a hdc) and how tight your knots are.

In other words, try it with a 6.0 hook and six rounds and adjust as nessecary. Not very helpful I know, but it will give you a place to start.

Hope this helps

It really depends on what you are crocheting, and how thick the yarn is.
