Hey, I've been a composer and songwriter all my life and have had to do 'other things' to earn a living. In my lifetime I've earned less than $50,000 with music. I put all my eggs in my music basket!

Looking back now I wish I'd had more of a profession to have more to show for all my efforts. To be a writer, actor or singer you have to be totally dedicated, as I tried to be, for your lifetime and live with the consequences if they don't work out. For most people they don't work out.

Have you been professionally evaluated as a singer? You're family and friends are no judge of your gifts. Your dreams may be misplaced!

My advice: become a doctor unless you absolutely can't be anything else but a singer. Feel free to email me.

I was watching a professional ice skater over the weekend (I don't recall her name) she is really good and does very well however she said she will go to college because nothing is forever and everyone needs and education just in case. You can go to college and still sing on the off times. Nothing is all or nothing. Give the education a chance and the singing too.

go to college and do the singing on the side. If you make it big then great but if not at least you'll have a degree under your belt

You can always sing...there are outlets all around you... Decide to sing regardless of how to make money...just pick something that isn't depressing...check out community theatre...open mic nights...start a band of your own.... No one should work all day anyway

watch american idol..... check out all the verry talented singers that will never make any money doing it..... and that's just the ones who never got a record contract of any kind, but just never sold that many records....

following your dreams is fine, but you can't depend on them. you should have a backup plan. your family can't decide that for you, but they are right that you should not depend on your singing for your future.

Sing. But also have a back-up career too.

Why can't you do both. You need to have a back up plan no matter what you choose..Life just throws curve balls..might as well be prepared.
