first of all, his name is spelled saddam hussein. second, there are a lot of things that went on in 2006 that many people remember. Depends on who you define as "everyone" (i.e. what Americans remember vs. everyone else).

along with what you have Fidel Castro temporarily relinquishes power to his brother before surgery in july....north korea claims to have tested a nuclear test in october...Coretta Scott King died in January...Steve Irwin's death on September 4th...there are more events, good and bad, on the link below...

The death of exuberant Australian wildlife presenter Steve Irwin was one of the biggest shocks of the year.( that is not how i talk i just edit copied and pasted it). that is all i can think of, i will tell u if i can find more : )
