both are excellent chips...how much cache does each chip have? I would lean towards the core 2 duo.....If it where me I would get it and overclock it. core 2 duo's are newer too and run cool.

The Core 2 Duo all the way because the Pentium D might be cheaper but it gets really hot and is built on the old P4 architecture. The Core 2 is a much easier processor to use and you can OC it alot, if you can get the multipliers right. Get the Core 2 Duo all the way, forget the Pentium.

I would also look into the new cedarmill processor that is coming out if you are thinking about buying, smaller wafer and more computing power, people have been clocking them up to over 4 gigs easy.

Between the two above that is a tough one, but I would never buy something retail if it were me.

Read it up on it on Tom's Hardware and see what people are saying.

pretty much answers itself, core duo, core 2 duo? hmmm i wonder...

however that is a fairly low end core 2 duo, will certainly use less power and generate less heat tho, cant say for sure on speed tho

I would have to say the 3.4G cpu is better.
