And why are you so passionate about it?

I am studying to be a teacher. We register for a class when we do our student teaching and that was definitely the most rewarding class. I have never spent so much time on any one class. I woke up at 5:30 each morning, left home by 6:30, and rarely returned to my house before 5pm. Over the course of the semester, some of the kids treated me well and appreciated what I was doing, but others couldn't stand the fact that I was "replacing" their normal teacher. One class in particular made my life difficult, but I never gave up on them; they were my challenge! On my last day there, I got a Christmas card from one student in the class. She wrote me a letter telling me that she was sorry for the way her class had treated me and that she admired how I hadn't given up on them. It was the only day I cried while student teaching. And that course was the most rewarding of any college course I could imagine.

I took an Intro to Islam class that I thought was extremely rewarding, even though it wasn't part of my major (just an elective). I took the class a relatively short time after 9/11.....probably at the peak of hysteria. It was really interesting - we had speakers from different sects come in and talk about their beliefs, customs, etc. We visited a local Mosque where we were warmly greeted. At the time I knew a fair amount about Islam, but I think the class was so rewarding because it provided a forum for local Muslims to express their feelings and frustrations with what was going on; how their religion was inaccurately portrayed as being violent and merciless in the media. I think that the class transformed a lot of the students' thoughts and attitudes on the subject. As far as passion, it didn't completely change my life, and I didn't change my major b/c of the class, but I think it did make me more tolerant of others.

My most rewarding class so far has been my psychology class, particularly psych 101. I am studying to be an animal behaviorist, and that class laid the basis for what I wanted to study.
