Skype's biggest obstacle, as for other VoIP providers, is that they don't own the last mile of infrastructure. Reliability will always be an issue when you don't own the entire physical path. Skype can't guarantee your phone call will go through if the power is down. The landline phone provider can and does.
VoIP is a lowcost alternative to landline, but at this point won't replace it.
As for wireless, VoIP is limited by the lack of ubiquity in 802.11 coverage and access. WiMax (802.16) may be the way to go, but, for now, I wouldn't see cellular going away anytime soon.

People will still use cell phones no matter what because of the ability to talk text and email on the go. But skype could replace home phones in the future.
