The problem is...when new people come in to set up house, they have to live somewhere. If ALL of the land is already owned, then someone has to move to accomodate the newcomers.
Rather than buying the land in some way, the settlers decided that Native Americans were primative, and wouldn't understand their way of doing things. They basically took candy from a baby at that point. It was too easy to take it, so why bother being fair?
They didn't want a little...they wanted it all, and with the superior weaponry and military development (in comparison to the native Americans)...AND the fact that they barely considered the native Americans 'human'...they took and took without any consideration for anything but their own greed.

The idea of manifest destiny began to take over the United States. Manifest Destiny was the ideal that the U.S. was destined to control the land between the Atlantic and the Pacific. As expansion began west, there was one obstacle, the Native Americans. So what is normally done when there is an obstacle in the way of any expansionist civilization is to move those obstacles away from the path. The Native Americans were moved west until there was no more room. This gave way to the use of reservations, which in the eyes of the U.S., kept the Native Americans quiet and in one place.
