I ponder this myself quite often. The truth is we don't really know. The only thing that we're almost sure of is that it is very very big and does go on for trillions of light years. There are several ideas floating around...one is that the universe is some kind of huge circle and if you keep traveling in one direction you'll eventually end up back where you started. But then the question becomes what lies outside of that sphere?
Another theory is obviously that the universe goes on forever, but our brains are not complex enough to fully understand the concept of infinity.
Then there's always the image of somebody finally finding the end of the universe but then walking out onto a blade of grass....which means bascially that for whatever answer you find there will be 1000 more questions.

Common concept believes the
universe to be infinite. (having
no end )
Personally, I disagree.
I believe the universe is really an
energy ball that exploded from a
"Big Bang." I believe this is a merely
a point in a cycle. Not a beginning.
I believe this universe is defined by
the energy forms (stars,planets etc)
and even space (inert energy), that
spin faster than the speed of
dimension.
I believe what lies outside this universe
is an undertow that pulls energy back
to a quantum state from which everything
actually comes.
Alien life is very possible because of the
huge size of the universe. The possibility
of us being their experiment is not likely.
Where would they come from? They would
have to be somebody's experiment, and so
on and so on. Evolution and domino theories
don't really cut it.
Today's science has determined this much:
Creation forms when energy bits called
"quarks" explode from a quantum state,
and interface with invisible forces known as
Laws Of Physics.
Time and space are merely by-products of
this reaction.
Bottom line: Aliens would also form under
these Laws Of Physics.

There is a beginning and there will be an end to it.
Since I was a kid, I always picture we are just a lab experiment for other culture and aliens.
Almost anything is possible right now, until they are prove wrong. Consider thousand year ago, people thing the land is flat and the sun rotate around us. I am not surprised some time later, someone will come up something that will revolutionize the way we interpret the universe.

Everything has an end. The universe will end only if, it stopped expanding. When it comes to space travels, it will be very unlikey. Right now, there is no planet like Earth to support life, maybe Mars but very unlikely.

Yes their was an end to the universe,
i remember it like it was yesterday, so many people were supprised, and never saw it coming, but enevitability came to pass, and now we all 'live' (if you could use that term) in the afterlife floating halfway between reality, consciensness and emprty nothingness.
I now live in constnant regrett that i never chose to know and search for God while i had the chance.
Yours truely.... Lost Soul.

The real question is not if there is an end to the universe but was there ever a start?

I hear that it's constantly expanding, but here's some food for thought: What's it expanding into?
