Im 15 and wondering, is it bad to sleep more then the reccomened amount amout which is about 8-9 hours? I go to bed around 10pm and wake up at 6am and feel exhausted the whole day. Physically and mentally. Sometimes I take naps during the day and wake up 4 hours later and feel fine and refreshed. But on a daily baisis I don't do that. As far back as I can remember, I've always been a sleepy tired kid during the day which I always found strange.

Im not sure if it's because Im sleeping too much or not getting enough sleep. Is it possible that certain people need more sleep than others?

If you are getting 8 hours a night, I would not worry about sleep. I would be looking into your diet and lifestyle. Try eating some eggs in the mornig and a glass of orange juice. You might consider doing some light excercises or getting out more. If none of those work you might see a doctor, checking into the possibility of anemia.
Oh well, remember try different things out. Change your lifestyle around. If nothing works, then see a doctor. Don't let yourself be fooled into the possibility of an instant cure in the form of pills.

Actually teenagers NEED at least 9 1/2 hours of sleep per night and 10 is better, even 10 1/2 is fine too. But anymore than 10 1/2 to 11 hours sleep is too much in most cases. But there are exceptions to that also.
But you are probably not gettine enough sleep for your age. Your body is constantly 'working' because you are still growing in every way, mentally & physically. So doctors now say for teens to get 9 1/2 to 10 hours of sleep per night!!! So, go to bed earlier -- you may think you're missing out by sleeping while you could be watching TV, etc., but you can actually have a lot more fun dreaming than watching TV --- because you'll be in the dreams and you can't be in the TV shows! You can train yourself to dream more and to have the dreams you want to have!!!
You will also be much more alert during waking hours as you stated above and being more alert is being more alive !!! I'd rather be more alive for 14 hours a day than barely alive for 16 hours a day!!!! So go get that sleep!!! One day very soon you'll be an 'adult' and you won't have the option to sleep more (as a general rule)!!!

If you get too much sleep, then you can feel tired all day long, but it sounds as if you're getting the recommended amount. If the problem is too bad, you should see a doctor, there might be something preventing you from getting quality sleep. Do you sleep through the night or constantly wake up. That can make you tired the next day. It could also just be the early hour at which you have to get up. I know that even when I get 8 hours, when I have to get up at 6a.m. I am just plain tired anyways.

Of coarse it's not bad for you if you need the sleep, but WHY?
I would surmise if you are normally healthy other then this that see you're Dr. and have some blood-work done, mainly for iron deficiency cause you are much too young to be that lethargic all the time! He'll probably order blood-work done, see what your blood count is and prescribe iron pills or find you to be anaemic,
which is a higher count of red cells in your blood and less of white cells. I had that too and was put on Iron Pills & B12 shots.
Hope this answers your question ok?

Are you sure you haven't got annemia or a thyroid problem? Go to your doctor and say your problems. Failing that, take some vitamin tablets that include iron.

if you get too much sleep, it can make you more tired. it's not esentially "bad" for you, unless you fall asleep at the wheel. everyone needs different amounts of sleep. you just need to find out what yours is.
